Every business is unique. Take advantage of the unique qualities of your business and how those qualities benefit your customers, to begin a successful Social Media Ad Campaign. One way that your small business benefits your customers is it's close proximity to them or if you provide a service in their home, your ability to travel to them.

If you're reading this article, it's likely that your business is located in and seeks customers from a specific "Columbus Ohio" geographic area. Whether it's a small town surrounding Columbus or the big city itself, in a Columbus Ohio suburb or in the country outside of 270, you can effectively target the area you want to reach using Facebook's geographic targeting features.

If your Columbus business has a fixed location that your customers must travel to, you'll want to target your city or town of course and the towns or cities that surround your town. Your Facebook ad will only reach those people who live in the targeted locations you specify. That area might be much larger if you travel to your customers' homes, providing a service such as painting or lawncare.

When choosing the locations you want to target, you have the option of choosing a radius surrounding those locations. You can select any number between 10 to 50 miles. If you use the radius option, keep in mind that you will likely gain followers or generate interest or leads from people living in other nearby communities, not just the specific locations you have chosen . If you don't want to go outside of a selected town, you have the option of choosing Facebook members who only live within that specific town or city. Scroll upwards in the dropdown box to choose that option.

Keep these tips in mind as you plan and implement your next Facebook Ad Campaign, or contact Columbus Social Media to provide that service for you. We'll bring life to your Facebook page, engage your customers and help you build sales.

            It's pretty simple really.

A poor Social Media presence will have a direct, lasting, negative impact on any business.

Many consumers use Social Media to research businesses before they buy from or visit them. The two Social Media platforms with the most monthly visitors are Facebook (Est. 900 million unique monthly visitors) and Twitter (Est. 310 million monthly unique visitors). When your Facebook page has very few "Posts" or "Likes" or your posts are sporadic or your Twitter feed is out of date, has a lack of "Followers" or your "Tweets" are sporadic, the perception to most consumers about your business will be negative.

The adverse is also true. Businesses that maintain their Facebook and Twitter accounts regularly can keep their customers informed and project a very positive image to anyone who visits them on Facebook or Twitter. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to find the time. Very few small to medium-sized business owners have the time to manage their Social Media presence daily themselves and few have the financial resources to hire a full time or even a part-time Social Media expert.

If you're like most small business owners your time is spent doing everything possible to keep your business running smoothly and profitably. As an average small business owner, you may take on the roles of the Manager, Accountant, Sales Manager, Human Resource Manager, Marketing Manager, Buyer... the list go on and on.

Your daily responsibilities can become overwhelming on a good day, and on a bad day... well that's another story. Not only is it difficult to wear so many hats each day, but it's even more difficult to be really good at doing so many things. One solution that makes sense, is to delegate some of those responsibilities. Focusing on a few of your key strengths will allow you to avoid getting behind and instead help you stay focused on managing your business.

With Social Media, Timing Is Everything

When you post is as important as what you post

Timing is of the essence, when it comes to a successful Facebook post.

Knowing when your target audience is most likely to see your post is essential if you plan on maximizing your Facebook organic reach. Be sure to review when most of your Followers are active by accessing your Facebook Insights to make sure you are scheduling posts at times when they'll have the most impact. Schedule posts during peak audience activity using the easy to read graph Facebook provides.

That doesn't mean you post exclusively during the evening if that's when most of your audience is online, but most of your posts should be made within that window. Posting sometimes during the mornings and afternoons is also wise so your audience members who only check their timelines during those hours won't miss your posts completely.

Facebook continues to grow as a major hub for small business exposure. Facebook's 50 million small business pages make it one of the largest small business communities in the world. Those fifty million small business pages make more than 43 billion connections with people and other businesses.

Setting up and maintaining a Facebook page can help a small business grow, if it's properly set up and managed. Facebook advertising can bring much needed exposure to a small business, allowing that business to target specific types of customers who live close to their location. Facebook also allows those small businesses the ability to save money because it provides businesses the means to target their advertising to the specific the types of customers most likely to purchase their products.

That's one reason Facebook was able to announce recently that they now have three million businesses that actively advertise. Most of those businesses are small, with limited advertising budgets. Every penny counts when you own a small business. Small business owners like having the ability to keep their current customers interested through regular posts, events and the interaction they generate on their business page while being able to reach out to new customers who match their buyer personas.

Facebook offers a great way to reach out to new customers, while keeping current customers informed and motivated so they'll keep coming back.

When You Post is Nearly as Important as What You Post

When it comes to posting to Facebook there a many nuances to take into account that can make the difference between success and failure.

One important factor is the time of day that you post. Your goal of course is to reach your key demographic and Followers and to reach as many of them as possible with each post. To do that you need to plan your posts to hit their timelines during the times they are most likely to be active on Social Media. Otherwise, your posts may reach their timelines, but be buried so far down their pages that they will likely never see them. By using your Facebook page Insights, you can determine when specific segments of your Followers are more likely to be active on Facebook. That knowledge enables you to plan or schedule your posts for those specific time periods. If you have a diverse audience, and products or services that appeal to specifics groups within your Audience, you might even consider planning posts at various times for difference products or services that are more likely to appeal to each segment of your audience.

A general rule of thumb is to plan your most important posts during the early evening. Most people will be home and more likely to be active on Social Media then. Depending on whether you are targeting a local audience or a national audience will determine the length of time "early evening' is. If your audience is in one time zone, then "early evening" will typically be from around 5-8:30 pm. If you are trying to reach a national audience you may want to post from 5 pm to 11 pm EST or later to reach each time zone's "early evening."

"Timing is Everything" when it comes to successfully sharing your posts with your key audience. Experiment to determine which times reap you the most Facebook Reach and success!

Is Your Website Staying As Active As It Should Be?

We all know how important is is to stay active. The more we stay active, the better we feel and the healthier we become. In the world of the internet, there is a similar correlation. Websites that remain active, in a sense, stay healthier. What is an active website? It's a website that evolves or changes on a consistent basis. Here are five reasons you should want to keep your website active.

                1. Page Ranking - In addition to several other variables, for Google and other Search Engines, websites that add original, useful content on a regular basis are rewarded with higher page ranking than those that do not. The higher your website's page ranking the more likely it is for customers to find your business when they are searching for the products or services you offer.

                2. Products or Services Change - Depending on the business you are in, the products or services you offer are going to change over time. Customers depend on your website to make buying decisions. The more accurate your website reflects your actual current line of products and services, the greater your customer satisfaction and ability to sell those products and services will be.

                3. People Change - Many companies, especially service businesses, include photos and contact information for many of their front line employees who you may need to contact. In today's work force those roles are continually changing and employees change jobs more often than in the past. It's critical to keep website employee contact information current, to prevent customer confusion and frustration.

                4. Sales and Promotions - In addition to Social Media advertising and print ads, your website should be the hub for any new promotions, sales, discounts, products and services you want to bring to the forefront of your advertising. Special landing pages can be added to your website specifically promoting new products, services and specials. Pop Ups can also bring sales and discounts to the attention of anyone browsing your website. New contact forms can be added to enter customers into contests, to sign them up for newsletters and for them to be added to mailing, email and text messaging lists. An events page is a great way for restaurants and retail businesses to advertise daily or weekly specials and upcoming events.

                5. Blogs and Business Insights - Customers and Clients appreciate your views and the views and perspectives of other members of your business and industry. The internal and external landscape of most businesses is continually changing. Your customers and potential customers will benefit from what you and other experts in your field of business have to say. Keeping them informed on a regular basis in a blog or Business Insights page of your website, can make a difference in their decisions to use your products or services.

Specialization - becoming An Expert in a Particular Subject or Skill.

You've probably heard of the term "Specialization."

We see it everywhere. The guy you depend on to fix your car is a great example. He knows how to fix cars. You take your car there when it breaks down or needs a tune-up because you're confident that he'll be able to get your car back on the road. The guy in the photo can make a great pizza. He owns a local pizza shop and many of his regular customers come from far away because his pizzas are incredibly tasty. They know that when they buy his pizza, they're going to love the taste. He's acquired great skills in making delicious pizza.

Specialization in a skill, trade or career gives the Specialist an advantage. They have the ability and knowledge to serve their customers extremely well. Their customers come back again and again knowing what to expect. Unfortunately, often times the pizza owner or the mechanic who are among the best at providing their customers a great product or service, venture well outside their area of expertise, trying to add the area of digital marketer to their job description. Sometimes it works out. Most of the time it doesn't. What the pizza shop owner and the neighborhood mechanic fail to realize, is that much like the skills they have developed after many years of hard work and training, Digital Marketing is also an area of great "Specialization."

Whether it's the skill of designing and maintaining a client's website so that it continually attracts new business, creating and maintaining a Social Media Marketing Plan that helps a Client's business grow or launching a Text Message or Email Marketing campaign that allows the client to reach customers at any time to promote their business; successfully completing any of these tasks so that they actually achieve their desired goals, requires very specialized training and practice.

If you are a small business owner, whether your business is an established business or a new one, it's helpful to recognize and remember that you are doing your very best. You probably work very long hours, managing all aspects of your business, just as I do. It's also important to realize that when it comes to the realm of digital advertising and promotion, that it's a constantly changing landscape. Keeping on top of the latest innovations in Social Media and Digital Marketing is a continual challenge even for a digital marketing agency, let alone for the local plumber, baker or restaurant owner. The question then is how can the average business owner take advantage of the latest improvements and innovations, or whether those new strategies are even right for their business?

Websites should be easy to navigate. It's one of the most basic principles of web design. When potential customers search for something they want or need on the internet, they expect to find it easily regardless of the type of device they are using. It's too bad that far too often, businesses are making it difficult for people to find the products or services they need, because of poor web design. Often times it's simply that their websites have become obsolete. As recently as five or six years ago, websites were still designed primarily for desktop computers. Within that time span and actually for at least a decade now, mobile devices have replaced computers as the primary source for web searches. More than 85% of web searches are conducted on mobile devices. I Phones and Android devices are the dominate web search tools for finding products and services.

That's why it is critical for businesses to move away from their decades old websites to one that was designed specifically to respond to this change in how consumers search now for what they need and want. Websites that were created more than 5 or 6 years ago, that were designed for computer searches, display text and graphics merely by shrinking down a computer display to the size of a mobile phone screen. No one can read the text or make out the graphics when that occurs. It's frustrating to the consumer, forcing them to try to manipulate the display on their phone to read the text. Most people aren't even willing to do that. They merely look for a better website. One that uses responsive design principles. Most people don't have time to fool around with the archaic websites they encounter. Those businesses lose potential clients daily, because they fail to recognize the significance of providing their audience a functional, legible and easy to navigate website.

If your website is more than 5 years old it's very likely that your website is among those that are frustrating potential clients. Especially if it wasn't designed to respond to the many types of displays that people use today to search the internet for goods and services. Websites must be designed to be easy to navigate and read, regardless whether they are being viewed on a mobile device, tablet or computer. Our creative team at Community Advertising LLC builds state-of-the-art responsive websites for our clients. We make sure that your customers and your potential customers, can easily navigate and read your website, so they can quickly find the products and services you offer. We know that if we can keep them happy, we can keep you happy!

The Art of Social Media

The perception that people get from Social Media of your business can be positive or negative. It largely depends on the artistic quality of your Social Media posts.

Why the Quality of your Social Media Page and Posts Makes a Difference

I've always felt that if you're going to do something, do it right. That attitude is especially important for anyone working with Social Media on a daily basis. When a business owner creates a page for their business, they are making a statement. You can tell a lot about the business just by looking at their Facebook page for instance. They are sending a message to anyone who looks at their business page. That message usually falls into one of two categories... either I've got my act together as a business owner or I don't.

Regardless of whether they actually do have their act together, the impression that consumers are getting of a business from Social Media can be totally the opposite. That's because the quality of the business page and its posts largely determine how that particular business is perceived. Generally speaking... poor quality = bad impression whereas good quality = good impression. Every business page has a "Personality." The key is expressing the appropriate personality to consumers on your business page. Is it one of apathy, neglect and incompetence or trust, professionalism and excitement?

The quality of your Social Media page and posts does make a difference. Make sure you are making a positive one.
